WEEK 2: JUSTIFICATION
"Declared Right in the Eyes of God"
"Declared Right in the Eyes of God"
This week we will look at passages pertaining to justification: God’s legal action where He, as the judge, declares the believer righteous and we have fellowship with Jesus. We are declared righteous because of Christ’s finished work on the cross. God no longer sees our unrighteousness but He sees Christ’s perfect righteousness in its place.
Dig Deeper: Since we will spend a majority of our time in Romans 5, "dig deeper" by reading the entire chapter in several translations. This will help us get a better context of the daily passages.

DAY 1: Read Romans 5:1-5
Key Verse: Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. (Romans 5:1)
Key Thought: Because we have been ‘declared righteous’ we have peace with God.
Reflect: Where in my life do I see genuine peace with God? How does knowing I am made right with God help me get back to peace with God?

DAY 2: Read Romans 5:6-11
Key Verse: And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. (Romans 5:9)
Key Thought: The provision of justification came through Jesus’ blood which allows us to be saved from God’s wrath concerning our sin.
Reflect: In light of Romans 5:6 (and Ephesians 2:1-3), what was my condition before I accepted Christ? Now that I have accepted Christ, what am I now? (If you’ve followed Christ since childhood, what things have you avoided falling into?)

DAY 3: Read Romans 5:12-17
Key Verse: But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:15)
Key Thought: One man’s sin (Adam) brought condemnation, but fortunately one man’s sacrifice (Jesus) brings justification to the believer.
Reflect: What did Adam’s disobedience bring for all people? What does Jesus’s obedience bring for those who believe? How can I be prepared to share this with somebody?
Dig Deeper: Read Romans 5 (entire chapter in NIV)

DAY 4: Read Romans 5:18-21
Key Verse: Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. (Romans 5:19)
Key Thought: (Same as yesterday) One man’s sin brought condemnation, but one man’s sacrifice brings justification to the believer.
Reflect: We see what Christ’s act of obedience has done. Where do I need to be obedient to God in my life right now? What does obedience in my life do for the people around me?
Dig Deeper: Read Romans 5 (entire chapter in ESV)

DAY 5: Read Romans 8:31-39
Key Verse: Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one--for God himself has given us right standing with himself. (Romans 8:33)
Key Thought: We can not be charged with a crime concerning our sin because God, the Judge, has declared us righteous.
Reflect: What keeps us in right standing with God? (See Verse 33) How does this give me hope and peace when I fall short and sin?
Dig Deeper: Read Romans 8 (entire chapter in NLT)
