WEEK 1: WHY DO WE NEED RESCUE?
"We Need a Savior"
"We Need a Savior"
By nature we are sinful people. We are morally polluted by sin and without rescue we will die in that sin. Jesus is the one who rescues us, renews us, and regenerates us to new life. However, we have another problem: Due to our sin, we are guilty (or liable) for our sin since we have not fulfilled God’s expectations. Through Jesus alone, we can be rescued from the condemning aspects of our sin and the guilt we experience.
Dig Deeper: This week we begin with a passage from Ephesians 2. “Dig deeper” into the context of this passage by reading the preceding chapter in Ephesians 1. We will return to Ephesians 2 in Week 3 of this study.

Read Ephesians 2:1-10 (only one reading this week)
Key Verse: All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. (Ephesians 2:3)
Key Thought: We inherit physical and spiritual death because of our sin. But God brings us to life through the sacrifice and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Reflect: Looking at verses 1-3, why do we need rescue? Looking at the rest of this passage, what has Jesus done for us?
Dig Deeper: Read Ephesians 1 (entire chapter)
